THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) is set to proclaim the Gabriela party-list as the newest member of the House of Representatives after it captured the 64th winning seat in the May 2025 National and Local Elections (NLE).
In a radio interview, Comelec Chairman George Garcia yesterday said: “Former congresswoman Sarah Elago, the number one nominee of Gabriela party-list, will be proclaimed as the 64th party-list representative in the 20th Congress on Wednesday.”
Garcia, however, said the Comelec has yet to formally inform Gabriela.
“We just want to end speculations. Anyway, it’s just a matter of formality on Wednesday, when hopefully, she will be officially proclaimed,” said Garcia.
Earlier, the Comelec announced that it will be proclaiming one additional winning party-list representative during the May 2025 polls.
The poll body has explained that this is because the 63 seats allocated during the recent elections are short of the required 20 percent party-list composition of the House of Representatives.
Gabriela placed 55th in the May 2025 party-list race after getting 256,811 votes.
In several instances, members of Gabriela had asked the Commission to proclaim the party-list to complete the party-list representation in Congress.
Gabriela said this is because it represents the genuine voice of Filipino women, children, and the LGBTQ+ community from marginalized sectors.
