CBCP urges faithful to care for environment

Amid the intense rain and massive flooding faced by the country recently, the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) yesterday urged the faithful anew to care for the environment and natural resources.

In his message for the start of the “Season of Creation 2025,” CBCP President Cardinal Pablo David yesterday said the public must do their part in caring for God’s creation.

“We cannot ignore the grave threats facing our world today, like climate change, environmental destruction, and the reckless exploitation of resources. These burdens fall most heavily on the poor and vulnerable,” said David.

“To care for creation, therefore, is not only an ecological duty but a moral and spiritual responsibility, a path of justice, peace, and love,” he added.

The Cardinal said this is the reason why they welcome the new Votive Mass for the Care of Creation approved by Pope Leo XIV.

“This Mass gives us a pastoral way to thank God for the gift of creation and to renew our mission as faithful stewards of our common home,” said David.

Similarly, the Church leader urged everyone to take action in showing their care for Mother Earth.

“Let us take concrete steps to live sustainably (by) protecting forests, seas, and skies, reducing waste, and safeguarding life for future generations,” said David.

The Season of Creation is the annual Church celebration of prayer and action for our common home.

The Season of Creation runs from September 1 to October 4.
