BARMM election gun ban starts Aug 14

THE election gun ban in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) will take effect on August 14 in relation to the October 13 Bangsamoro Parliamentary Election, according to the Commission on Elections (Comelec).

In line with this, the poll body is reminding concerned individuals to secure their gun ban exemptions before the election period starts.

“On August 14, the election period starts, along with the gun ban. Once the gun ban takes effect, they must have their CAs (certificates of authority) before they are able to carry their firearms,” said Comelec Commissioner Aimee Ferolino.

“Even if they have gun licenses, the only time they can carry their firearms is when they have a certificate of authority,” she added.

She said those who have been issued CAs during the May 2025 midterm polls are only required to apply for an extension.

“Those that were issued CAs during the May elections, they just need to request for an extension since they have already submitted the requirements earlier,” said Ferolino.

According to the Comelec – Gun Ban and Security Concerns Committee (GSC), the filing of applications for CAs started last July 14.

Applications may be filed daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., excluding weekends and holidays, with application forms available at https://comelec.gov.ph/?r=2025BARMMPE/BPEGunban.

The BARMM election period and gun ban will be in effect from August 14 to October 28.

During the gun ban period, it shall be prohibited to carry firearms and deadly weapons in all public places, to engage the services of security personnel; and to transport firearms, and/or their parts, ammunitions, and/or their components.
