FORMER senator Paolo Benigno “Bam” Aquino yesterday called on companies to give skilled persons with disabilities (PWDs) the chance to work despite their limitations.
Aquino said he has talked with several PWDs who said their work applications were rejected due to their disabilities even if they have the skills required for the job opening.
“Many of those whom I have talked with have the capability to work and want to be productive. They want to help (their families). They are aware that there are certain considerations about their condition but at the end of the day, all they want is to help and be productive),” Aquino said in Filipino.
He said companies should give PWDs the chance to be employed by looking at their potentials, and not at their handicaps. He also government should help PWDs get the right skills training to make them fit for work despite their limitations, or get the necessary technical assistance to start their own businesses.
