2 Japanese gunned down in Malate

THE Japanese Embassy yesterday confirmed two of its citizens were killed in a shooting incident in Malate, Manila, last Friday night.

“We express our condolences to the deceased and we are currently coordinating and confirming the details of the incident with the Philippine authorities, and are providing support to the bereaved family of the deceased,” the embassy said in a statement.

The embassy did not provide the names of the victims.

The two Japanese were shot to death by motorcycle-riding assailants along Malvar St. in Malate around 10 p.m., moments after alighting from a taxi cab.

The Manila Police District said it has already formed a special task force to investigate the incident and identify and arrest the motorcycle-riding suspects who immediately fled the scene.
