TWO Chinese were arrested at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport after presenting fake exit clearances to immigration officers, the Bureau of Immigration said on Monday.
BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado said Li Jiangcheng, 29, and Liao Weibin, 39, were arrested last August 11 after attempting to board an afternoon flight to Singapore.
“The officers found out that both clearances were counterfeit,” Viado said, adding they were caught by officers of the BI immigration protection and border enforcement section during the redundancy records verification of departing passengers.
Viado said the two were already overstaying aliens and had falsified their clearances to avoid being detected by authorities.
BI records reveal that Li has been overstaying since 2022 after previously working in a tech company in the country.
Liao used to work in a trading corporation, but has failed to update his visa since 2023.
At the same time, Viado said that they are investigating individuals who might be aiding the acquisition of fake documents of the two.
Li and Liao are under the custody of the BI’s border control and intelligence unit, and are facing deportation charges for violation of Philippine immigration laws.
