SIX poll-related topics will take the spotlight for the next three days as the Commission on Elections (Comelec) holds the first-ever National Election Summit from March 8 to 10 at the Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila in Pasay City.
In a statement, the Comelec said they have decided to mainly focus on six topics during the summit expected to be attended by various election stakeholders, including President Marcos and other ranking government officials.
“Set to be discussed are notable key issues encountered every election and provide meaningful and sustainable reforms to map out strategies towards a free, orderly, honest, and credible Philippine elections,” said the Comelec.
Topics up for discussions are voter registration; voting, counting, and canvassing processes; and campaign finance and fair elections.
Also included in the topics are the filing of Certificates of Candidacy, Party-list Accreditation, adjudication of cases, teachers as members of electoral boards, and integration of voter education in the K-12 curriculum, tertiary education, and National Service Training Program (NSTP).
“The abovementioned topics will be thoroughly discussed through simultaneous breakout sessions all throughout the three-day span,” said the Commission.
Earlier, Comelec chairman George Garcia said they expect some 400 participants in the event from civil society organizations, poll watchdogs, people’s organizations, experts, the academe, and Filipino voters.
Also expected to attend the event is Marcos, Vice President Sara Duterte, Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri, House Speaker Martin Romualdez, and other lawmakers and government officials.
