THE Metropolitan Manila Development Authority yesterday said it has sent a team to Davao City that will provide technical assistance in coming up with a comprehensive traffic management plan and capacity building course for local traffic enforcers.
MMDA spokesperson Melissa Carunungan said the agency acceded to the request of the Davao City Traffic and Transport Management Office (CTTMO) for assistance in the area of “traffic management and capacity building.”
“Yes, the LGU of Davao City,” Carunungan said when asked if the city government of Davao requested assistance from the MMDA.
The MMDA team arrived in Davao City last February 20 to begin a five-day assessment of the traffic situation in the city and provide technical assistance to the local traffic bureau.
In a statement, the Davao City government said the assessment will serve as the basis in the formulation of a traffic management plan and a capacity-building training course for CTTMO personnel.
“The training course aims to strengthen the traffic management system in the city and improve the day-to-day traffic conditions in metropolitan Davao,” the city government said.
It added that traffic engineering, traffic enforcement and traffic education are the three central disciplines in traffic management that will be assessed in the five-day program.
