Korean wanted in Seoul nabbed in QC

IMMIGRATION agents apprehended a South Korean wanted by authorities in Seoul for fatally beating a compatriot and for his alleged involvement in telecommunications fraud.

Bureau of Immigration-Fugitive Search Unit chief Rendel Ryan Sy said Jang Youngjin was nabbed last Friday at his residence in Cubao, Quezon City.

Sy said Jang was the subject of a deportation order issued by the BI Board of Commissioners for being an undesirable alien.

“Jang is also the subject of a red notice from the Interpol and an arrest warrant issued by the Cheongju district court in Korea in connection with a murder case,” Sy said.

Jang allegedly mauled a fellow Korean after a heated argument during a drinking spree. The victim later died due to head trauma.

Sy said a warrant was also issued against Jang by the Seoul Central District court for running a telecom fraud syndicate that operated in China.

Jang is currently detained at the BI detention facility in Bicutan, Taguig City pending his deportation.

BI records showed that in 2021, South Koreans topped the list of wanted foreigners arrested by immigration agents and deported to their country to face various criminal cases.

Of the 83, the BI said 55 were South Koreans, followed by Americans with 8.

Many of those arrested were involved in fraud, economic crimes, cybercrimes, and sexual offenses.
