AN inmate who bolted the Leyte Regional Prison (LRP) in Abuyog, Leyte has been recaptured in Calamba City, Laguna, the Bureau of Corrections said yesterday afternoon.
BuCor Director General Gregorio Catapang Jr. said the inmate escaped last August 24.
Efforts by the BuCor to locate the inmate proved unsuccessful until it received information that the inmate fled to Calamba.
Catapang said a recovery team from the bureau along with intelligence personnel from the LRP recaptured the inmate last October 4.
“The operation was conducted in close coordination with the LRP and the National Intelligence Coordinating Agency — Region VIII,” Catapang said.
“Their joint efforts pinpointed the potential whereabouts of the Person Deprived of Liberty, who escaped custody on August 24, 2024,” he added.
Catapang declined to identify the inmate or the reason why he is serving time in prison.
The inmate will be returned to the Leyte facility to complete his sentence.
