ASIDE from Zamboanga City, dengue cases are also on the rise in parts of Cagayan Valley, Western Visayas, and Davao Region, according to the Department of Health.
In an online press briefing, Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said: “We have also observed increasing cases of dengue in Regions 2, 6 and 11.
“But it is not the whole of Regions 2, 6, and 11. There are specific provinces in these regions showing increasing numbers,” she added.
He said a steady rise in dengue cases is being observed in Zamboanga City.
“We are seeing a steady increase in cases in Region 9. It exceeded its epidemic threshold that’s why an outbreak was declared,” said Vergeire.
The DOH attributed the rise to the recent rains, which increase “the risk of dengue.”
Vergeire said they have activated the Dengue Fast Lanes in hospitals, adding the DOH has prepositioned logistical needs of medical facilities and hospitals in treating dengue patients.
