MALACANANG yesterday declared December 26 as a special non-working day throughout the country to give the public a longer period to enjoy the holidays with their loved ones and to encourage domestic tourism.
Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin yesterday signed Proclamation 415 declaring December 26 as a special non-working day. It follows December 25 or Christmas Day – a regular holiday – that falls on a Monday.
“The declaration of 26 December 2023, Tuesday, as an additional special (non-working) day will give the people the full opportunity to celebrate the holiday with their families and loved ones,” the proclamation order read.
“A longer weekend will encourage families to get together and strengthen their relationship leading to a better society… a longer weekend will also promote domestic tourism,” it added.
The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has been directed to issue the appropriate circular to implement the proclamation for the private sector.
