COVID cases climbing

THE latest case bulletin of the Department of Health (DOH) shows that the average number of daily coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases in the country are on the rise again.

The DOH said an average of 260 cases daily were reported, or 1,821, during the seven-day period from December 5 to 11.

The figure is 36 percent higher than the number of cases reported from November 28 to December 4, which averaged 191 infections per day.

The case bulletin reported 13 deaths and 13 additional severe and critical cases during the past week.

There are currently 228 severe and critical COVID-19 cases in the country, as of December 10. Of these, 176 are occupying ICU beds, which account for 13.6 percent of the 1,298 total nationwide.

On the other hand, the health department said 16.5 percent of the 11,111 total COVID-19 allocated beds nationwide are occupied by 1,833 patients. — Gerard Naval
