It’s a mixture of excitement and nerves for Star Magic artist Beaver Magtalas as he faced the press at the premiere night of his launching movie, Rems Films’ “When Magic Hurts” at the SM The Block last Monday.
Beaver said he is eager to find out the reaction of fans to the romantic film, directed by Gabby Ramos and also starring Mutya Orquia and Maxine Trinidad.
“First time ko po makita ang reaction nila sa first of all love team naming tatlo and I’m very open to criticisms kasi alam ko nga po there’s a lot of things I have to learn before I become a better and a really good actor,” the good-looking teen said.
“When Magic Hurts” is a touching story of family and romance that is set in the beautiful Atok, Benguet. Beaver is Ernest, a photography enthusiast who unexpectedly finds inspiration in the famed flower farm of Benguet. He meets and develops feelings for hard-working florist Olivia (Mutya). However, Ernest’s parents, played by Angelica Jones and Soliman Cruz, intend to marry him off to his childhood friend Trixie (Maxine Trinidad), who harbors feelings for him. What happens to the three young stars is the highlight of the movie.
Beaver only has the best words for his co-actors.
“Si Mutya po, she’s supportive. Habang ginagawa po namin ‘to, she was one of the persons who helped me finish this and sumuporta po sakin doing our scenes. Even in real life talaga, we support each other, the three of us,” he said.
Maxine is spontaneous, said Beaver. “She’s very fun and is spontaneous na kahit wala po kaming gawin, it’s really fun kahit ano-ano lang ginagawa namin.”
Even after the shoot, Beaver said he and his co-stars find time for each other. Recently, he said, he invited Maxine to his school prom.
“Me and Maxine went to my school prom at the College of the Immaculate Conception in Cabanatuan because I also want her to witness the beauty of our province,” revealed Beaver.
Beaver said that aside from the love story, “When Magic Hurts” offers young people a lot of lessons.
“It’s not something we can deny na with social media and technology medyo nakakapart po tayo from our family, my character talagang ipapakita how important the family is, how important it is to have a family who support and how important it is to love your family.
“Isa pa is maappreciate nyo po talaga ang ganda ng Pilipinas dito sa movie na ito, ang ganda ng Atok,” he added.
“When Magic Hurts” also includes actress Claudine Barretto and her daughter Aryana in the cast. The movie will open in theaters next month.
