FIVE Russian Navy ships arrived in Manila on Tuesday for a port visit that is expected to bolster relations between the Russian and Philippine navies.
“The Russian Navy contingent is comprised of Corvette Gremyashchiy, two submarines, tanker Pechenga, and support vessel Alatau,” said Navy spokesman Cdr. Benjo Negranza said.
Negranza could not immediately say until when the Russian ships will be in the country.
He said the visit “is intended for routine port replenishment and rest for the crew.”
The Russians have stepped up port visits to the Philippines under the administration of President Duterte who has sought stronger relations with the Russia.
