49th MMFF breaches P1B mark

THE 49th Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) has surpassed the P1 billion mark in gross earnings. The organizers of this annual cinematic event announced the achievement last Sunday, January 7.

MMFF 2023 has enjoyed huge support from the Filipino audience following lackluster performances in the last couple of years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Following the news of the festival’s financial success, the MMFF committee has also announced the extension of the showing of the entries until January 14.

It should be noted that MMFF 2018 also reached more than P1 billion and holds the record for highest-grossing in the festival’s 49 years.

MMFF 2023 has the distinction of having ten entries in its slate. The ten movies are “Rewind,” “Broken Hearts Trip,” “Mallari,” “Firefly,” “GomBurZa,” “Pedro Penduko,” “Family of Two,” “Becky and Badette,” “When I Met You in Tokyo,” and “(K)ampon.”0
