3 of 5 cops in robbery-extortion surrender

THREE of the five Manila Police District (MPD) policemen wanted for robbery-extortion surrendered to Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission Executive Director Gilbert Cruz at Camp Crame yesterday afternoon.

The three were Corporal Jonmark Gonzales Dabucol and Patrolmen Jeremiah Sesma Pascual and Jhon Lester Reyes Pagar. The two others, Staff Sergeants Ryan Tagle Paculan and Jan Erwin Santiago Isaac are still at-large.

The PNP had launched manhunt operations against the five, all members of the MPD Intelligence Operation Unit, after being implicated in robbery-extortion.

They allegedly raided last July 11 a computer shop in Sampaloc, Manila owned by 73-year-old Herminigildo dela Cruz, who they accused of involvement in online gambling.

They reportedly took P44,000 from a drawer and demanded P4,000 a week in protection money for the continued operation of the computer shop.

The PNP said the incident was caught on closed-circuit television. The policemen, who were in civilian clothes at that time, did not present any search warrant.

Earlier yesterday, PNP spokeswoman Col. Jean Fajardo said the five were declared Absent Without Office Leave (AWOL) as early as last week.

The five were ordered relieved from their posts pending further investigation. Their immediate superiors are also under investigation.
