OPERATIVES of the PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) arrested a dismissed Army soldier and a minor who are both members of crime groups in separate operations in Iloilo and Cebu last Monday night.
The ex-soldier, Francis Sindingan Sumido, 53, was nabbed during the implementation of a search warrant in Barangay Wari-wari, New Lucena town in Iloilo at around 10:55 p.m.
Seized during the raid were a cal. 45 pistol, a 9 mm pistol, a 12-gauge shotgun, a cal. 22 rifle, a cal. 22 revolver, two hand grenades, an improvised explosive device (IED), 183 rounds of ammunition, three magazines, a plastic sachet with flash powder, a two-meter IED wire, and two identification cards.
CIDG director Brig. Gen. Romeo Caramat said Sumido is a member of the Cutanda criminal group engaged in robbery-extortion, gun-for-hire, and gunrunning in Iloilo.
Caramat said Sumido was discharged from the Philippine Army for killing his own brother.
Charges of illegal possession of firearms, ammunition and explosives are being readied against Sumido, according to Caramat.
A 17-year-old juvenile offender was arrested in Sitio Banawa, Barangay Guadalupe in Cebu City at around 6:05 p.m., the CIDG said.
The boy was arrested by virtue of arrest warrants for murder and attempted homicide.
Caramat said the boy is a member of the Villamor criminal group and served as spotter, lookout, and courier.
The boy was previously taken into custody. He and 17 other children in conflict with the law escaped from the Cebu City Operation Second Chance Center last January 11, the CIDG said.
The boy was brought to the Mandaue City Field Unit of the CIDG “for documentation and proper disposition.”
