SM Supermalls at 40: A celebration of gratitude, growth, and vibrance

SM Supermalls celebrated its 40th year with a glittering Partners’ Appreciation Night at the Forbes Ballroom of Conrad Manila. The Sy family, joined by SM executives and SM Supermalls President Steven Tan welcomed partners, tenants, stakeholders, media, and friends, many of whom have grown with SM through the years.

From Henry Sy’s vision of making malls accessible to every Filipino with the opening of SM North EDSA in 1985, SM has grown into more than just a shopping destination, it has become a hub for jobs, opportunities, and community life. Today, with 88 bustling malls nationwide, SM proudly celebrates four decades of bringing people together and creating spaces where communities thrive.

“Tonight is special – not only because we’re celebrating our 40th year, but because we’re celebrating it with you. For four decades, you’ve been with us every step of the way, and for that, maraming salamat,” said Steven Tan in his welcome speech. He also unveiled the exciting line-up of new malls, SM Zamboanga, SM Sta. Rosa, SM Malolos, and the highly anticipated rebirth of SM Harrison Plaza – all designed with SM’s signature “glo-cal” spirit, blending the best global retail brands with the unique local flavor of each community.

Themed Live at SM, it’s SM Supermalls 40th, the celebration was a wonderful mix of ensemble comedy, of music, of skits about SM and their tenants, and of stand-up repartee. Kaladkaren hosted the program, while Gab Pangilinan, Macoy Dubs, Baus Rufo, and Raco Ruiz entertained the crowd with skits and song.

Flown in especially for the night, and a big delightful surprise for all those who follow her on social media, was comedian Atsuko Okatsuka. Not content to deliver her traditional stand-up routine from the stage, she joined into the crowd, and provoked laughs by seeking out guests who came close to her trademark bowl-hairstyle.

Dinner was a feast by Conrad’s China Blue with Chef Jereme Leung curating a menu that featured Lobster and Soft-Shell Crab, Green Apple with Truffle, Roasted Duck and BBQ Honey Matsuka Pork Neck, Sautéed Shrimp and Straw Mushroom, Wok-Fried US Slice Beef with Hunan Pepper Sauce, Braised Spinach Tofu and his signature Coconut Mango Sphere for dessert.

More than the food and the entertainment, the evening was really about togetherness. A celebration of four decades of growth, relationships, and a dream fulfilled. SM Supermalls was turning 40 in style, with gratitude, and with the promise of even more milestones to celebrate in the years ahead.
