Watsons — a leading health, wellness, and beauty retailer — initiated a coastal clean-up drive, supported by its employees and suppliers.
Dubbed as the DO GOOD program, the volunteer clean-up effort was conducted at the Las Pinas-Paranaque Critical Habit and Ecotourism Area (LPPCHEA).
Watsons and LPPCHEA also partnered with Communities Organized for Resource Allocation (CORA) for this activity. Antoinette Taus, celebrity and executive director of the non-profit, said they are happy to work with Watsons.
Viki Encarnacion, Watsons public relations and sustainability director, said “We will continue to monitor, and if we need to do this again next year, hopefully we will have more employees to participate.”
As Watsons is dedicated to health and wellness, we believe that we have the corporate responsibility to take care of our environment as well, Encarnacion added.
What has impressed Jared de Guzman the most was the interest of their employees and supplier partners, said Watsons consumer/marketing director.
“When we sent out the invitations, we got immediate responses. We had to manage the number of people that would attend because everybody wanted to join,” said de Guzman, who noted a 100 percent turnout of Watsons employees.
Encarnacion commended Watsons employees for their eagerness to volunteer in the clean-up, adding that several children also participated in the event.
A total of 1,015 kilograms of waste have been collected during the said activity.
Aside from the clean-up drive, Watsons also supports other community initiatives, offering free cleft surgeries and providing free medicines and health services to poor communities, among others.
Watsons is likewise refurbishing its store in SM North EDSA, painting it as the store of Watsons future. “You will be able to see new ways of shopping, not just for enjoyment, but also doing good for the planet as we provide more sustainable choices. There’s a giant sign up there referring to those choices. Shoppers won’t miss it,” de Guzman added.
