Asia’s biggest dog show is back at the Big Dome

After being sidelined for the past two years as a result of the pandemic, the Philippine Circuit, an annual event organized by the Philippine Canine Club, Inc., showcasing some of the best purebred show dogs all over the world is back at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The event will run from January 12 to 15, 2023. During those four days, 15 prestigious shows will be staged, each offering its awards at stake. There will be 4 Certificats d’Aptitude au Championnat International de Beauté (CACIB) Shows with one doubling as a Crufts Qualifier Show, and one doubling as a Philippine Winner Show.

There will also be 4 Asia Pacific Champion Shows and 4 South East Asia Champion Shows, and finally, 3 Philippine Derby Winner Shows which are integrated within the 3 CACIB Shows.

For its 8th year, the Philippine Circuit recorded a total of 8,412 entries, 5,892 of which are from the Philippines and 2,520 from a total of 16 countries. Of the total foreign entries, 56 percent are from our neighboring countries in Asia, like Thailand, Korea, and Indonesia, 38 percent from Europe, and 6 percent from the USA.

Heading the prestigious 17-man panel of international judges is Mr. Tamas Jakkel from Hungary, who is presently the President of the FCI or Federation Cynologique Internationale, the ruling organization for national kennel clubs in the world.

This year’s Philippine Circuit also serves as the kick-off event for PCCI’s 60th Anniversary celebration. During the event, the PCCI will launch its commemorative coffee table book “60 Years of Purebred Dogs in the Philippines, the PCCI Legacy.” This limited-edition book showcases the purebred dogs that made their mark in the country and the various personalities that shaped the purebred dog fancy into what it is today. Another highlight during the event will be a short program that will formally introduce to the public the Philippine Forest Dog or “Asong Gubat” which will hopefully be the first FCI-recognized dog breed from the Philippines.
