Marge Organo’s central concentration is to capture the beauty of the female form through the conceptual lines and rich vibrant colors of her sculptures. “En Femme”, a lexical borrowing of a French phrase which translates to “as a woman”, focuses on the delicacy of femininity yet captures the purposefulness of the vital force in a woman’s psyche.
“En Femme” investigates how minimal form can create emotion and meaning in the depiction of the female figure. Organo’s goal is to strip the idea of physicality down to the essentials, in order to release it from its original state that is limited by one’s preconceptions. The reason for stripping the body of mass is to disrupt any fixed idea of the figure as “woman”, allowing the viewer to experience the characteristic mood and attitude of the sculptural object. The artist aims to transform the viewer’s familiarity of the body from a literal identification of flesh into an authentic emotional response to the work.
The goal of the exhibit is to illustrate how society’s contemporary view of women has evolved from the historical myth. Whether evocative of nature, steeped in legend, or cloaked in other cultural references, the subjects of Marge Organo’s works are often simultaneously beautiful and delicate, vulnerable yet powerful.
Marge Organo’s “En Femme” will be on view at Booth A1 of ManilArt 2021, located at the 3rd Level of SMX Convention Center, SM Aura, Bonifacio Global City, Taguig from October 13 — 17, 2021.
