Excited is an understatement as OPM icon Ice Seguerra preps for his two-night show, “Karaoke Hits,” at the Music Museum on May 10 and 11.
Ice admits his passion for singing and considers himself extremely fortunate that he enjoys his job.
“Actually hobby ko talaga ay singing, nagkataon lang na naging singer ako,” he said at a recent press con at the spanking new Fire and Ice offices on Tobias corner Limbaga Sts. in Diliman, Quezon City. “Kaya I honestly don’t feel like it’s work.”
Liza Diño-Seguerra, Fire and Ice CEO who also happens to the creative director of “Videoke Hits,” playfully joked about Ice’s tendency to extend his performances and his difficulty in trimming the lineup of songs for “Videoke Hits.”
“Parang hindi siya singer,” teased Liza.
Well, if Ice is a videoke addict, his father, the late Daddy Dick was on another level. Ice revealed that Daddy Dick was his “kaagaw” sa microphone. He recalled that when his father was battling cancer, Daddy Dick requested for a videoke setup and they would have videoke sessions by his bedside.
“MoonRiver,” “Portrait of My Love,” Matt Monro’s “Born Free,” and a Cascades medley were Daddy Dick’s favorites.
“Ang best videoke memory mo ‘yung kasama ko erpat ko,” said Ice. “Kasi nung alam na namin that he was gonna die soon, ayaw na niyang mag ospital noon, so sabi niya sa bahay na lang siya.
“So inaayos namin ‘yung unit namin ng condo, may hospital bed, pero resuest nya videoke, so ayun dun kami nag videoke.”
Just as Ice relieves beautiful memories in “Videoke Hits,” he will also sing with members of the audience and perform videoke favorites like “Torete,” “I Love You, Goodbye,” “Build Me Up Buttercup,” and “You’re Still the One.” But it wouldn’t be a karaoke without the infamous “My Way,” right? Ice said it would be his opening song.
“Para na rin prove na hindi totoo ang curse,” the singer said, “Pero meron kaming security checks sa mga papasok, panigurado lang po,” he added with a chuckle.
“Videoke Hits” is divided into three segments: “With Ice, Please!,” “Jam with Ice,” and “Watch Ice Ice-fy Your Favorites.”
“This will be different from Ice’s shows because this concert is more interactive,” said Liza, “The guests get to request their songs in real time! They get to sing along with Ice, and we have jammers who will perform onstage with him. Without spoiling the fun, I also want to share na sasayaw si Ice. So yes, dun pa lang, ibang Ice Seguerra ang ma-e-experience dito.”
Presented by Fire and Ice Live and Katinko, “Videoke Hits” is sponsored by Unilab, Wow Fiesta, Hortz Hotel and Resorts, with SPEEd as media sponsor. Tickets are available through Fire and Ice PH and Ticket World.
