On letters that live forever

“Sulat Habang Buhay” is dedicated to rekindling the art of hand-written letters as a means for self discovery, healing, and reconnection.

Words, letters are important. They create meaning and affirm love and life. This is the principle behind our collaboration with “Looking for Juan” (LFJ).

LFJ  has caught our fancy during book fairs and bazaars because of their excellent Filipino artistry while tackling socially-relevant topics that even kids can totally relate to. One Christmas, we gave our inaanaks LFJ’s “Safe Space: A Kid’s Guide to Data Privacy” and “I Am the Change in Climate Change.”  As with their loyal clients, what  is notable is that when you purchase these from the online store Lookingforjuan.com, each purchase is matched with book donations to disadvantaged communities. This way, children know that being a hero today is possible with the little things we can do as individuals in our community, as well as establishing and supporting purpose-filled entities like Looking for Juan.

The online store is replete with art-based books and gift items, and it aims to improve literacy in the Philippines by merging art and purpose with every purchase. This makes it easy for individuals and companies to complete their requirements for gifts while contributing to the future of the next generation. Navigating through the site also allows one to find interesting stories of everyday heroism.

It is also through Looking For Juan that some of the creative BenCab merch are popularized.

From concept to completion, they collaborate closely with Filipino creatives to develop art-driven, socially aware books, products, and corporate gifts. They partner with like-minded businesses, organizations, and individuals to give more books to children and promote literacy in disadvantaged communities.

So, our collaboration is called “Sulat Habang Buhay” – dedicated to rekindling the art of hand-written letters as a means for self discovery, healing, and reconnection. This thoughtfully crafted letter-writing journal features original watercolor artworks of Aldy Aguirre, with our prompts and stationery to inspire heartfelt expression through writing.

Why write these letters anyhow? There are real valid reasons:

Remembering. Trigger your memory and dig up pieces from the past that need to be reviewed and released today.

Clarity and relief. Eliminate the background that distract you and clear out the piles of unfinished business in your life.

Closure. Say what needs to be said and move past old conflicts and misunderstandings.

Growth. Take personal responsibility for your actions and grow in mind and spirit.

Change. Move from resentment to gratitude. Dream and wish for a better tomorrow.

Joy. Personal expression and creativity flourish when you write, filling you with a sense of aliveness and vitality.

Connection. Get in touch with cut-off parts of your self.

Peace. Put your unspoken words and unresolved feelings to bed; you’ll rest better.

Healing. Diffuse the stress and worry about an illness or accident or anything that needs to be healed.

Appreciation. Getting words and feelings off your chest makes you feel better and appreciate others.

Apology. Asking forgiveness to oneself, others, or the past. Saying sorry. Making amends.

Gratitude. What are you grateful for? Being thankful makes us move forward, attract good moments yet to come, and become more attuned to the grace and blessing each day brings.

Hope. Finding light in darkness. It is the peace that we give others and ourselves.

Love. Expressing and affirming love makes life more meaningful, always and forever.

Prayer. That deep connection rooted in faith is manifested in prayer.

This whole letter-writing journal lightens us up, and from there, we just let our goodness shine through!

“Sulat Habang Buhay” will be available at the Artefino in Rockwell from Nov 28 to Dec 1, and will be launched at The 7th NOEL event at the Ateneo on December 7.

“Every Filipino can help the next generation just through a simple purchase and Looking for Juan can be a mission partner in making this happen,” said Looking for Juan CEO Larissa Chavez.
