A ‘Macbeth’ mix of fashion, music

It’s going to be the first of its kind in the Philippines.

To mark its 20th anniversary — and its 10th anniversary in the Philippines — Macbeth is pulling out all the stops for a marvelous display of edgy fashion and amazing music on October 8 at the Metrotent in Pasig.

“It’s a big surprise,” show director Benjie Estanislao excitedly said at the press con at Shatin Courtyard in Banawe, Quezon City last Wednesday. “It will be a two-band set-up on two different stage and at the same time a catwalk in both set up pero leading to one. This is a show you would want to see na superbands and you have a fashion show.

“There’s lots more… iba-ibang surprises,” he teased.

The concept is so challenging, added Estanislao, that a lot of talks and butting heads happened have happened behind the scene. But it’s all to make the show truly memorable.

“It’s difficult na sabay na tumutugtog ang dalawang banda tapos sabay ng pagrampa ng mga modelo tapos nagpapasa-pasahan sila,” he added, likening the anniversary show to MTV’s Fashionably Loud show in 1997, wherein Vivienne Westwood’s Red Label collection debuted on stage with a live performance from The Prodigy.

It will be the first time in the Philippine scene, and fittingly so, said Estanislao, as footwear, accessory and apparel brand Macbeth, founded by Tom DeLonge, a former member of Blink 182, has always been known for rocking the fashion world and help break stereotypes.

“What is good with Macbeth is they are uplifting our culture, in the fashion industry, in the elite world na medyo may ibang standards. But that is what our culture is doing — we’re breaking all these barriers as Macbeth is also doing. This is the first time I believe na in Philippine history, to have an event of this magnitude — putting bands and a fashion show at the same time,” Estanislao further said. “Parang ‘yung Victoria’s Secret with Maroon 5 kaya lang sa kanila isang band lang, dito two bands.”

France Santiago, marketing director of the brand, said the event will feature 20 of the most favorite bands of Macbeth.

“Kaya namin sila kinuha dahil we are celebrating our 20th anniversary. The 20 favorite bands ni Macbeth from different genres and underground music kasi ‘yun ang aim namin — to merge ‘yung dalawang world — mainstream and underground music into one event.”

To be sharing the stage on October 8 are such artists are Rico Blanco, Mayonnaise, Chocolate Factory, Sandwich, Chelsea Alley, Urbandub, Hilera, Even, Snakefight, Sucketseven, Fragments, Chndtr, Fastpitch, Soapdish, Written by the Stars, Divina, Lilith, Shotgun Combo, Imbue No Kudos, Rouge, and Macbeth All-Stars and Superband.

Metrotent gates open at 11 a.m. on October 8.
