Air cargo traffic up 23%

The country’s air cargo traffic volume in domestic grew by 23 percent to 109.8 million kilograms in the first half of this year as compared to 89.3 million kilograms in the same period last year, according to the latest data from the Civil Aeronautics Board  (CAB).

Philippine Airlines, and its unit PAL Express carried a total of 51.8 million kg cargo while low-cost carrier Cebu Pacific, and its unit CebGo carried 41 million kg. Philippines AirAsia carried 15.6 million kg cargo.

Other local carriers include AirSwift Transport Inc. carried 2.13 million kg, Island Aviation Corp. which carried 594,563 kg, SEAIR-I Inc., which carried 1.14 million kg, and Sunlight Express Airways has carried 37,999 kg cargo volume.

Meanwhile, Royal Air Charter Service Inc. terminated cargo operations from January to June this year based on the latest CAB data.

As of January to June this year, the air cargo in international operation reached 181 million kg of which 92.2 million kg are incoming cargo while 88.8 million kg are outgoing cargo volume.

Out of 37 airlines that operate cargo services, the top five leading are Philippine Airlines which has reported 30.7 million kg of cargo traffic, Cathy Pacific Airways carried 13.4 million kg, Cebu Pacific has 12.5 million kg of cargo, AHK Air Hong Kong Ltd carried 11.5 million kg and lastly Emirates which carried 10.4 million kg cargo.

For this month, the fuel surcharge level for domestic and international passenger and cargo services reached level 6 from September 1 to 30 this year which is higher as compared to last month which was pegged at level 4, the higher fuel surcharge was attributed to increasing jet fuel prices in the world market.
