SMC opens 2nd community market
San Miguel Corp. (SMC) is set to open to the public its second community market in the south to help sustain the livelihoods of pandemic-hit farmers and small businesses.
Called the Circolo weekend community market, the center is located at the company’s idle 4,000-square meter property in Cabuyao, Laguna and is set to open late this month.
This is the second to be established this year in the provinces of Laguna and Quezon following the soon-to-be-inaugurated San Miguel Market at SMC’s housing community in the town of Sariaya.
Slots at the Circolo community market will be offered rent-free for six months to both farmers and small to medium enterprises.
The Circolo community market will also showcase SMC brands Chick ‘n Juicy, TJ Hotdogs, Spam, San Mig Coffee, Purefoods, Veega, Magnolia Gold Label, Kambal Pandesal, and San Miguel Ethyl Alcohol.
Mondelez PH supports JCI Manila’s Ten Outstanding Guro Awards
Junior Chamber International (JCI) Manila and Mondelez Philippines have partnered through the Ten Outstanding Guro Awards (TOGA).
Mondelez Philippines has been implementing its flagship community program Joy Schools for the past ten years through interventions for access to fresh food, nutrition education and promotion of active play. Its main program is a 9-month feeding program for 300 students every year, benefiting over 5,300 students in the past decade with the help and cooperation of teachers.
Via the virtual awarding ceremony last July 4, ten teachers from different municipalities across the country were chosen. Three student leaders were also recognized. The teacher awardees were nominated and chosen by a board of judges based on the challenges they faced as educators, their impact on students, and efforts they exerted to go above and beyond the call of duty.
The ten outstanding public teachers were: Aprellene Marquez, Quinavite Elementary School, Bauang, La Union; Raymond Tolentino, Nabitasan Elementary School, La Paz, Iloilo; Leah Joyce Corpuz Quilang, Cauayan City National High School, Cauayan, Isabela; Rhea Bohol, Bayanan Elementary School, Muntinlupa City, MM; Irish Gregorio, Padre Zamora Elementary School, Pasay City, MM; Ninia Estillore, Gusa National High School, CDO, Misamis Oriental; Dr. Ester Magaan, Laong-Laan Elementary School, Manila; Mary Ann Henson, Siclong Elementary School, Laur, Nueva Ecija; Zyra Paguio, Balanga Elementary School, Bataan; andDante Ballesteros, E. Rodriguez Jr. Highschool, Quezon City.
Two teachers, Rhea Bohol and Irish Gregorio were also conferred the “Mondelez Philippines Joy Schools Holistic Teacher Award” for their efforts to go above and beyond their teaching duties. Both teachers have previously been part of the Joy Schools program.

Manila Harbor Center aids Coast Guard’s substation project
Manila Harbor Center Port Services, Inc. recently donated construction materials to help build the Philippine Coast Guard’s (PCG) Vitas substation at Pier 18 in Tondo, Manila.
Turned over to the PCG team, led by OIC PO1 Ronald James Corpuz, the materials will support the substation’s development project that will create a bigger workspace for its personnel. The workspace expansion will help the PCG perform its operational and administrative functions more efficiently while strictly implementing pandemic health protocols.
“MHCPSI recognizes the PCG’s critical role across the maritime industry as well as the sacrifices of its personnel during this time of pandemic. We hope that our contribution will help safeguard PCG personnel and visitors at the substation by making the workspace compliant to COVID-19 protocols,” said Aurelio Garcia, MHCPSI general manager.
A wholly owned subsidiary of International Container Terminal Services, Inc., MHCPSI operates a 10-hectare international breakbulk and bulk private port facility at the northern side of the Port of Manila.
Maxicare provides COVID-19 testing for Bb Pilipinas beauties
To ensure a safe and COVID-19-free coronation night for this year’s Binibining Pilipinas, Maxicare, along with its mobile clinic Lab on Wheels, went to the Araneta Coliseum to conduct RT-PCR testing for the 34 Bb. Pilipinas candidates, as well as the event staff, guests, and crew.
With Maxicare’s Lab on Wheels, the Binibining Pilipinas candidates were able to avail of the gold standard in Covid-19 testing safely and conveniently. PWDe online bazaar
In celebration of National Disability Week, newly established social enterprise Precious Works of Differently Abled Enterprise (PWDe) put the spotlight on the talents and skills of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) through an online bazaar on Lazada starting July 21.
The online bazaar features the following products made and services to be provided by deaf people, people with autism
and Down syndrome, physically disabled people, and other PWDs: food products, craft and gift items and services.
These products and services are available in a dedicated page for the bazaar on the Lazada website or app Precious Works of Differently Abled Enterprise.
PWDe is supported by JCI Manilena, Lazada Philippines,and the National Commission on Disability Affairs (NCDA).
PANAta Awards kicks off
The Philippine Association of National Advertisers (PANA) just launched its PANAta Awards 2021, the country’s annual recognition program for effective and creative marketing communication campaigns, continuing its legacy of celebrating brands which have made a difference.
This year’s PANAta Awards theme is “Hilaraya”, a portmanteau of the Tagalog words hila, which means “to pull”, and hiraya, meaning the “fruit of one’s hopes, dreams and aspirations.
The awards categories will feature its customary recognitions for Brand Bravery, Endorser of the Year and various Excellence awards in Brand CSR, Brand Positioning, Customer Empowerment, and Marketing Innovation. The awards addressed towards the pandemic response launched last year and aptly termed Gawad Pandayon for Authenticity, Courage, and Creative Effectiveness- will likewise be retained since the marketing environment has remained in a state of flux. In addition to the Most Effective use of media (TV, radio, print), nominations will also be accepted for the category Most Effective Use of Medium Digital.
The People’s Choice Awards which will reflect the sentiments of the consumers will be opened at a later date. The Brand Builder of the Year award will only be named from qualifying entries. Brand Rookie of the year has been renamed to Most Promising Brand of the year and the category Best Localized ad is now Best Provincial Ad.
Qualified entries are those that have been aired or used in any form of media or platform from January to December 2020.
TransUnion teams up with cooperatives
TransUnion has reached an agreement with 1 Cooperative Insurance System of the Philippines (1CISP) and its partner TraXion Tech Inc. to extend its solutions to cooperatives in underserved and underbanked areas in the country.
Cooperative members of 1CISP will have access to richer data solutions, which will enable them to better service their community and prospective members and drive greater financial inclusion.
1CISP offers support to mostly underprivileged communities by providing their cooperatives with life and non-life insurance products and wider financial services. Its tech partner–TraXion Tech–is a systems integration company that specializes in transaction management systems. Together, the two organizations launched and operate the DigiCoop website where cooperative members can apply for loans, insurance, and investments, pay bills and other financial commitments, and access the DigiCoop virtual marketplace, among other capabilities.
Startups level up
QBO, in partnership with Youth Business International (YBI), supported by Google’s philanthropic arm Google.org, introduced INQBATION: Leveling Up B2B Startups, an incubation program focused on supporting start-ups enabling businesses in the Philippines to grow and digitize.
After a successful screening, QBO announced the top three incubatees: Packworks, ChatGenie PH and Senti AI, which then went through intensive training with QBO and its program partners including Google. More than a dozen Google industry experts took their time to upskill the start-ups with one-on-one mentorship and exclusive workshops, covering topics such as megabranding, product marketing, channel management, brand philosophy and essence, futureproofing, and professional sales 101.
Following the INQBATION, the three start-ups will present to investors, venture capitalists, and corporations through QBO’s SHOWQASE: Succeeding in the B2B Space on July 23.
The private sector, in collaboration with non-government organizations and government partners, launches Kain Tayo Pilipinas the flagship program of Pilipinas Kontra Gutom which invites everyone including the public to help feed more Filipino children and equip families with nutrition information to help alleviate malnutrition especially amongst children 5 years and below.
