SM Supermalls hits 5MCOVID-19 jabs, opens more vax sites for minors

SM Supermalls has surpassed the five-millionth mark of COVID-19 jabs and the opening of more SM malls as pediatric vaccination sites outside Metro Manila.

“Breaching the five-millionth mark is a testament to our commitment to providing our communities with accessible and convenient vaccination sites. We thank our partner LGUs for this partnership are happy to provide our malls as pediatric vaccination centers for minors belonging to the 12-17 age group,” said Steven Tan, president of SM Supermalls.

During the opening ceremony of Paranaque City LGU’s “Bida Rin ang Bata” vaccination center in SM City Sucat on November 3, a total of 588 youngsters were given their first dose of vaccines. To date, SM Supermalls has vaccinated over 6,000 pedriatric constituents in 15 pediatric mall vaccination sites.

Present during the launch were Sec. Carlito Galvez Jr., National Task Force (NTF) against Covid-19 Chief Implementer and Vaccine czar; Assistant Secretary Elmer Punzalan and Assistant Regional Director Aleli Sudiacial, Department of Health; Paranaque Mayor Edwin Olivarez; Paranaque 1st District Rep. Eric Olivarez; IATF Assistant Regional Director Paz Corrales; Dra. Evangeline Labines, CESO V, School Division Superintendent; and, Dra. Olga Virtusio, Head of Paranaque CHO.

Mayor Olivarez shared that they target to inoculate 70% of their pediatric constituents this November, and will continue to work with the LGU’s partners.

SM Supermalls is the only mall venue partner as the DOH rolled out the second phase of the A3 immunization, starting at SM Megamall last October 21 and at SM Sucat on November 3. Several other SM Malls are expected to become safe and convenient Pediatric Vaccination Centers in the next weeks.

IGNITE CYBER 2021: Blazing towards Recovery & Growth

IGNITE PH, the largest international innovation conference in the country will be back again online for November 16-19. The event will take on a new paradigm this year as they discuss “Corporate Innovation Towards Recovery and Growth”, featuring new speakers from all over the region, and partnering with Shell LiveWIRE, Japan External Trade Organization, ROHTO Pharmaceuticals, and Korea Tourism Organization.

IGNITE, the group composed of TechShake, Dentsu x, and Brainsparks, will once again gather audiences from the startup ecosystem.

This year, at the WILDFIRE Pitch Event, the most-awaited part of the IGNITE PH event, teams will be pitching to selected judges for the day.

The first day will focus on Social Good, featuring Shell LiveWIRE, the second day, Digital Transformation will be the scope featuring Richard B. Dasher, Ph.D., director of US-Asia Technology Management Center, and on the third, it will be aligned with ROHTO’s vision, which is Health and Wellness. The fourth and final day, will be the culmination with the Travel Tech Startups from the Korea Tourism Organization.

Another leap for this year’s IGNITE is the most extensive innovation-centric business matching and networking event called “Match,” launching on the Brella app.

Fighting fake news about COVID-19 vaccines

With its Truth In Action campaign, Globe is supporting the private sector’s INGAT ANGAT Bakuna Lahat program to educate the public on the safety of vaccines and encourage everyone to do their part in ending this pandemic.

The campaign uses a series of videos illustrating the erroneous claims people have shared about the vaccines. It also includes a pledge that encourages the public to become responsible digital citizens and avoid spreading malicious and fake information online.

“As a digital solutions provider, we hope to educate the public on the hazards of fake news especially at a time of pandemic. We are calling for responsible digital citizenship among our fellow Filipinos, especially vital at this time where proper dissemination of information is crucial to achieve national recovery,” said Yoly Crisanto, Globe chief sustainability officer and SVP for Corporate Communications.

Max’s appointment

Ariel Fermin has been appointed president of Max’s Group Inc. (MGI). Effective immediately, Fermin assumes the position from Robert F. Trota, who remains as chief executive officer.

Fermin is responsible for the overall commercial and operational performance of MGI and its iconic brands such as Max’s Restaurant, Pancake House, Yellow Cab Pizza Co., Krispy Kreme, Jamba Juice, Dencio’s, Teriyaki Boy, and Sizzlin’ Steak. He is tasked with identifying both external and internal opportunities for expansion, customers, markets, new industry developments, and standards; as well as executing and implementing corporate policies, programs, processes, and guidelines in line with the Group’s vision.

Fermin brings with him over three decades of leading some of the most distinguished companies across a diverse range of industries.

Piña weaving competition

The 4th Lourdes Montinola Piña Weaving Competition will be held virtually this year. The call for entries has been posted on HABI’s website and social media platforms.

Aside from the prizes sponsored by Lourdes Montinola, two new awards from other patrons will be given: the EN Barong Filipino award for an outstanding young weaver under 30 years old and The Filip + Inna Innovation prize.

The entries will be posted online and exhibited at the Silver Lens Gallery From November 13 to 20. The exhibition can be viewed by appointment. The awarding of winners will be on November 19 via Zoom.

Forty-four entries have been received, many from young weavers under 30 and several innovative pieces.

BDO reminders

BDO Unibank reminds clients that it will never send a warning message about account deactivation as banks do not deactivate accounts via email, text, or call.

BDO said it will never urge clients to click on links that lead to websites asking for personal information to verify their identity and prevent account deactivation.

BDO continues to advise its clients to do the following steps to outsmart scam messages: Check the email sender’s address; double-check a link before clicking on it and; be wary of the message itself.

BDO encourages clients to report suspicious incidents.

Talkwalker, a leading consumer intelligence company, is now providing TikTok data in its Consumer Intelligence Acceleration Platform.
