EVAP Formally Announces 13th PH Electric Vehicle Summit
Philippine EV Sector Gears Up for the 13th EV Summit
Leaders from EVAP, BYD Cars Philippines, Omoda & Jaecoo Motor Philippines Inc., the Department of Energy, Foton Motor Philippines, UAAGI, and GAC Dangdang gathered at the pre-event press conference of the 13th Philippine Electric Vehicle Summit in BGC, Taguig. With EV adoption in the country tripling in 2024 and charging stations set to expand nationwide under the Comprehensive Roadmap for the Electric Vehicle Industry (CREVI), the presscon highlighted the sector’s unstoppable momentum. Stakeholders reaffirmed their collective drive to “Charge
Ahead and Ignite the EVolution” as the Philippines accelerates toward sustainable mobility.
The Electric Vehicle Association of the Philippines (EVAP) maintains confidence that the country’s electric vehicle sector will continue gearing up towards more sustainable, innovative, and transformative mobility for Filipinos.
During the pre-event press conference for the 13th Philippine Electric Vehicle Summit (PEVS) held in Bonifacio Global City on August 27th, EVAP President Edmund Araga expressed optimism about rising EV adoption amid supportive government policies, volatile petrol costs, and new market entrants. “It is high time to shift to EV. There are currently more choices when it comes to EV models and brands,” he said.
Explosive Growth in Sales
Actual sales of 4-wheeled EVs nearly tripled in 2024 to 3,880 units from 1,028 units in 2023—a 277.5% spike, based on stakeholders’ data compiled by the Department of Energy and EVAP. Battery electric vehicles (BEVs) accounted for 75% of sales, hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) comprised 23%, and plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) represented 2%.
For 2- and 3-wheeled EVs, sales rocketed by 25,156% to 43,441 units in 2024 from just 172 in 2023, with 93% being Category L2 2-wheeled EVs.
Expanding Charging Infrastructure
The Comprehensive Roadmap for the Electric Vehicle Industry (CREVI) aims to deploy 7,300 EV charging stations nationwide by 2028, from about 300 in 2023 and 992 in 2025. The long-term target is 20,400 stations by 2040 when EVs are expected to reach 2.5 million units.
Currently, 12% of public charging stations are in malls, with SM Supermalls leading at 69 stations, followed by Ayala Malls (31), Megaworld (5), and Robinsons (4). Outside Metro Manila, Cebu City has 14 stations, Davao has 7, and the Bicol region has stations in Legazpi, Naga, and Sorsogon.
Government Support Drives Momentum
President Marcos inaugurated the country’s first lithium battery factory in Tarlac in September 2024. The Department of Trade and Industry’s proposed Electric Vehicle Incentive Strategy could generate ₱11.4 trillion in economic output and create 680,000 jobs.
“The EV sector is unstoppable. There are more productive and insightful discussions plus a grand showcase of the latest innovations, industry collaborations, and new EV models coming at this year’s PEVS, with the theme ‘Charge Ahead, Ignite the EVolution.’ We invite all stakeholders and the general public to join us from October 23 to 25 at the SMX Convention Center Manila. Don’t get left behind the accelerating EV revolution,” Araga concluded.
