Meralco works 24/7 to support completion of BBB projects
Meralco crews conducting interim relocation of poles and electric facilities along EDSA, between Trinoma Mall and SM North Edsa, Bagong Pag-asa, Quezon City. This project, which involved the retirement of six (6) poles, and installation and relocation of 22 distribution poles, was conducted in response to the request of the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and BF Corporation. This gives way to the ongoing construction of the Common Station, a 13,700-sqm concourse area that will seamlessly interconnect the LRT-1, MRT-3, MRT-7, and the Metro Manila Subway for ease of passenger transfer and interconnectivity with road-based transportation systems.
Despite the heightened community quarantine measures implemented by the government due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Meralco, subsidiaries and partners work round-the-clock to ensure safe, adequate, and uninterrupted electric service to its customers, and guarantee the timely relocation of its affected electric facilities to pave the way for the speedy completion of government’s Build-Build-Build (BBB) infrastructure projects such as the Common Station.
Globe empowers over 85M customers nationwide in 917 celebration
Globe is celebrating National G Day or 917 Day (inspired by its original prefix) a little differently this year. As a way of giving back to the community, Globe is encouraging its customers to support various advocacies and communities.

SM Supermalls 100 Days of Caring
To kickstart the Christmas countdown, SM showed the most uplifting way to best celebrate the season with “100 Days of Caring” featuring 100 days of spreading love and care for one another and for communities. Mr. Steven Tan, president of SM Supermalls, led 76 malls in pledging support to 100 beneficiaries per mall, ranging from fisherfolk in North Luzon to Indigenous Peoples in Mindanao.
Good In Life video, photo competition highlights Filipino values
Amateurs, enthusiasts, and seasoned content creators are invited to join Insular Life’s (InLife) “Good in Life Video and Photo” competition which aims to show that ordinary Filipinos can rise above the difficult challenges in the pandemic.
Guided by cherished Filipino values — love of God and country, resilience, malasakit at pakikipag-kapwa tao — it has been shown that in whatever circumstance, there is always “Good In Life.”
In interpreting the theme — “Good in Life”, creators must express their entries in terms of our cherished values as a people.
For the winning videos, chosen from 10 finalists, the first place will receive P111,000, second place will get P60,000 and third place will collect P40,000. The rest of the finalists will receive P5,000 each. All prizes are tax-free.
The limit of the video competition is 3 minutes maximum length. Each entrant is allowed to submit up to 3 videos.
The top prize for the photo competition is P30,000, second place is P20,000 and third place is P10,000. Ten finalists will also receive P2,000 each. All prizes are tax free.
For the photo competition, each entrant may submit up to three entries of photos or a photobook. Each photobook is considered as one entry. Entrants may submit a combination of photos and photobooks.
Deadline for sending entries will be on Oct. 15 at 11:00 PM.
United Airlines expands Manila-Guam service
United Airlines has expanded its Manila-Guam service from five-times weekly to daily effective Sept. 7.
This expanded service conveniently connects to United’s daily Guam-Honolulu flights at Guam International Airport for both ways, allowing passengers from the Philippines to travel to Denver, Los Angeles, and San Francisco via Guam and Honolulu.
It also conveniently connects to United’s daily Guam-Saipan service.
The additional flights will meet growing passenger demand as more Filipinos travel to return to the Philippines and visit friends and relatives abroad. This also expands options for travelers to visit destinations such as Guam that are open for a vaccine tourism program which allows international visitors to receive a COVID-19 vaccine while enjoying a stay.
CEB test before boarding
Cebu Pacific has started implementing on September 17 its Test Before Boarding (TBB) program for passengers bound for Hong Kong as part of the airline’s multi-layered approach to ensure everyJuan will fly safely.
CEB will shoulder the cost of the Antigen test or TBB until September 30.
Passengers are advised to directly proceed to the Philippine Airport Diagnostic Laboratory located at the second floor, NAIA Terminal 3 pre-departure area (near Gate 6), four hours before the scheduled time of departure.
Antigen Test results will be released within 30 minutes, and only passengers with negative results may proceed to the check-in area.
Guests who will be unable to take the Antigen Test or receive a positive test result will not be accepted for check-in.
DHL price adjustments
DHL Express announced a price increase that will take effect on Jan. 1, 2022. Compared to 2021, the average increase in Philippines will be 4.9 percent.
Prices are adjusted on an annual basis by DHL Express, taking into consideration inflation and currency dynamics as well as administrative costs related to regulatory and security measures.
These measures are being regularly updated by national and international authorities in each of the more than 220 countries and territories that DHL Express serves.
Depending on local conditions, price adjustments will vary from country to country, and will apply to all customers where contracts allow.
PGH receives P&G support
Coinciding with Philippine General Hospital’s (PGH) 114th founding anniversary, Procter & Gamble Philippines donated 4,000 PPE suits and its newest healthcare product innovation, Vicks First Defence, a nasal spray product for early intervention of the common cold.
On top of Vicks First Defence and hygiene kits worth over P2 million, P&G also recently turned over to PGH Foundation funding to help construct urgently needed decontamination showers in PGH’s Emergency Room Complex and sewer ejection system for their OB-Emergency Room Complex which is now being used as an interim COVID-19 ER.
Importance of infra
The Information Technology and Business Processing Association of the Philippines (IBPAP) has noted the crucial role of utilities like Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) and its fiber Internet and data solutions unit, Radius Telecoms, in providing the necessary infrastructure to allow a majority of outsourcing companies to continue with the current work-from-home (WFH) arrangement even after the pandemic.
IBPAP at a session organized by Meralco on September 2 urged Radius and other telecom companies to accelerate the rollout of fiber optics networks and install more cellular sites to improve both fixed and mobile Internet connections.
Meralco assured the group the power distributor “will always do what we can to keep the lights on in the homes and businesses of our customers.”
PLDT free connectivity
PLDT Enterprise extended the free connectivity service it provided to the municipality of Linamon, Lanao del Norte in aid of its COVID-19 vaccine rollout.
PLDT Enterprise has installed fixed and broadband lines that would enable communication and data management for the Municipal Civic Auditorium vaccination site in Linamon for free.
PLDT Enterprise has been actively supporting the national government’s drive to combat the spread of the virus through initiatives that boost the delivery of COVID-19 relief response.
Various municipal governments across the country have also received free internet connection from PLDT Enterprise to support the students’ online learning and the online operations of local businesses.
