Sen. Erwin Tulfo met with French Ambassador to the Philippines Marie Fontanel to discuss strengthening economic cooperation between the two countries and exploring investment opportunities, particularly in Palawan.
The discussion focused on key sectors, including transportation, infrastructure, sustainable tourism and regional develop ment, the office of Senator Tulfo said.
As vice chairman of the Committee on Foreign Relations, Tulfo emphasized the government’s commitment to improving the ease of doing business. He cited plans to revisit the mandate of the Anti-Red Tape Authority (ARTA) under the Ease of Doing Business and Efficient Government Service Delivery Act to streamline government processes and attract more foreign investors.
Among the investment opportunities discussed were major infrastructure projects in Palawan, including a proposed shipyard and a railway system to improve north-to-south mobility on the island.
Tulfo, who is from Palawan, expressed interest in collaborating with French companies known for their expertise in railway construction.
“We are looking into the possibility of building highways or an expressway from north to south in Palawan,” Tulfo said. “This would serve both local and international tourists. A feasibility study could help determine its viability.”
Fontanel welcomed the efforts, noting that investing in the Philippines has “become much easier compared to before” due to improvements in the ease of doing business.
Tulfo also highlighted Palawan’s potential as a sustainable tourism and logistics hub, positioning it as a strategic gateway for regional and international investments.
The meeting underscored the shared commitment of both countries to a long-term partnership and inclusive growth.
