Smart Communication Inc. and Globe Telecom Inc. have deployed more Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) registration sites in the country.
PLDT mobile brand Smart and value brand TNT will offer SIM registration in SM Supermalls across the country.
As of January 30, Smart booths and touch points offering assisted SIM registration services for prepaid and postpaid subscribers have been deployed in 36 SM establishments from Cauayan, Isabela in North Luzon, all the way to General Santos, South Cotabato in Mindanao. Eight more SM establishments will host Smart and TNT-assisted SIM Registration booths in the next few days, bringing to 44 the total count of covered SM Supermalls.
In addition, PLDT’s wireless unit Smart has implemented maximum security measures since the start of the government-mandated SIM registration process to protect customer data and information.
“Our cybersecurity culture has led us to implement the toughest cyber defenses when it comes to data privacy and protection. Our goal has always been zero breaches. We also assure our customers that we follow a legal procedure when there’s a valid request for information,” said Angel Redoble, first vice president and Chief Information Security Officer at PLDT and Smart.
Smart and its value brand TNT have also deployed assisted SIM Registration booths in 15 far-flung municipalities in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao since last week.
Meanwhile, Globe registered more than 11 million active prepaid SIMs around a month after the law mandating all Filipinos to register their SIMs took full effect.
Globe hit the milestone 11-million mark on January 30, , a month after the SIM Registration Act was rolled out as a measure to stop cybercrime, including scam messages that proliferated due to the anonymity provided by prepaid SIMs.
