The Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) has vowed to strengthen its education advocates that would make students ready for the future of work in support of the appointment of a new secretary at the Department of Education (DepEd).
Enunina Mangio, PCCI president, urged DepEd Secretary Sonny Angara to prioritize improving the skills and employment readiness of Filipino graduates.
“Right now, the education system is not producing the human resources with the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and values that are needed in today’s world of work, not to mention the future,” Mangio said in a statement.
She said PCCI has ongoing programs that help educational institutions develop education and training programs on priority qualifications in selected sectors. These programs aim to produce certified graduates with the competencies for gainful employment/self-employment.
Mangio said the PCCI Education and Training (PET) system is being implemented in coordination with DepEd, the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority and the Commission on Higher Education.
Mangio said the system aids in crafting curriculum development, dual education and training, and work immersion for educational institutions.
“These (programs) will prepare students and trainees for jobs that have not yet been created, for technologies that have not yet been invented, and to solve problems that have not yet been anticipated,” Mangio said.
