NEA releases P1.54B in loans to 24 ECs in H1

The National Electrification Administration (NEA) released a total of P1.54 billion in loans to 24 electric cooperatives (ECs) nationwide in the first half of 2025, representing 86 percent of its P1.795-billion loan program for the year.

The H1 2025 loan disbursement was 76 percent higher than the P873.31 million lent to 21 ECs in the same period last year. For full-year 2024, NEA extended a total of P1.81 billion in loans to 36 ECs.

Of the amount released from January to June this year, P893.65 million went to 20 ECs for capital expenditure projects, while P650 million supported the working capital needs of five ECs.

NEA said its Accounts Management and Guarantee Department processed more loans in the second quarter, totaling P967 million, compared to P577 million in Q1.

The agency supervises 121 ECs across the country and regularly monitors system performance indicators such as systems loss, circuit kilometers, substation capacity, and power reliability.

Its enhanced lending program covers regular, calamity, concessional, short-term, renewable energy, modular genset, and single-digit system loss reduction loans.

NEA has also partnered with the Department of Education to implement 295 projects this year under the Last Mile School electrification program. DepEd will identify and prioritize schools in need, secure local permits, and provide counterpart support, while NEA and partner ECs will handle solar panel installation, system monitoring, and technical assessments.
