Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) subsidiary Spectrum partnered with global beauty company Avon to energize the latter’s first solar-powered facility.
Spectrum built a 626.4 kilowatt-peak solar rooftop power plant in Avon’s manufacturing plant in Calamba, Laguna.
The power plan, which was inaugurated last week, is expected to generate about 841,100 kilowatt hours of clean energy on its first full year of operations, translating to 599 tons of carbon footprint reduced or 329,315 trees planted which also forms part of Avon Global’s efforts to become a more sustainable company by reducing its environmental impact and improving its operational efficiency.
“This is the first solar project of Avon, not just in the Philippines but internationally,” said Tirso Antonio Pereja, Avon Products Manufacturing Inc. head of operations.
Pereja said in a statement Avon intends to replicate the initiative locally and globally.
Meralco had supported the power requirements of Avon Philippines as an enterprise customer, assisting it in its shift as a contestable customer under the retail competition and open access in 2013. – Jed Macapagal
