The Federation of Philippine Industry has vowed members’ strict compliance with the Philippine National Standards, and continued cooperation with the Department of Trade and Industry.
FPI Chairperson Elizabeth Lee said adherence to the Philippine National Standards “is non-negotiable.”
“Only by strictly following these standards, especially in cement and steel, can we ensure safe, durable, and resilient public infrastructure for our people,” she said.
FPI issued the statement on Thursday, September 11 as the government dug deeper into anomalous public works projects that not only undermine public safety but mine government coffers of billions worth of budget.
Anti-corruption measures
FPI executives led by Lee held a press briefing to express their support for government measures addressing corruption, citing the ongoing investigations against individuals and firms involved in anomalous flood control projects.
Lee said President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. made the right choices in naming Secretary Vince Dizon to head the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and Commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno to lead the Bureau of Customs (BOC).
She said the ongoing investigation and measures to run after erring government officials and private individuals as well as the move to check on their luxury vehicles were connected.
“That, actually, is a very strong signal for the business community to say, may nangyayari, at may mangyayari (something happens and something good will happen),“ she said.
Quality standards
Lee said the FPI has been in close coordination with DTI’s Bureau of Product Standards (BPS) and reaffirmed the group’s “commitment to collaborate with all government agencies in upholding these standards.”
“Together, we must guarantee that our public infrastructure projects are built on quality, integrity, and accountability, laying the foundation for sustainable nation-building and long-term growth,” she said. (PNA)
