ICTSI’s Austria terminal sends first train to Croatia

International Container Terminal Services Inc. (ICTSI) said the first regular train bound for Container Terminal Enns (CTE) in Austria has departed its Adraitic Gate Container Terminal (AGCT) last month.

The block train operated by Maersk Line with CD Cargo Adria providing rail services will be connecting the Croatian AGCT in the port of Rijeka with Austria.

“Following the first ever direct trains to the Czech Republic in May, the Austria connection further adds to a growing network of regular weekly block trains which already include Serbia, Hungary and Bosnia and Herzegovina, and continue to illustrate the increasing significance of AGCT as a gateway for Central Europe and Southeast Europe,” said Emmanuel Papagiannakis, AGCT chief executive officer.

“For the first time ever, major Austrian shippers can be directly connected by rail to AGCT in Rijeka, providing a valuable alternative route with reliable transit times. With the cooperation of all partners including Maersk, CD Cargo and CTE Enns, we believe the product will remain successful and attract more shippers,” he added.

ICTSI has been operating AGCT since March 2011, after the company signed a 30-year strategic partnership with Luka Rijeka D.D. for the operation, management and development of AGCT at the Port of Rijeka, Croatia’s main seaport. –Ruelle Castro
