Honda to make more motorcycles

Honda Philippines Inc. (HPI) is expanding its capacity of motorcycle manufacturing to meet the rising demand for this type of vehicle.

The Board of Investments (BOI) said HPI is seeking registration for its expansion, for an additional 442,000 units annually, at its 20-hectare facility at the First Philippine Industrial Park in Tanauan City, Batangas.

In its application, HPI seeks to qualify under the “All Qualified Manufacturing Activities including Agro Processing” Tier 1 of the 2022 Strategic Investments Priorities Plan.

A surge in motorcycle sales has been noted since the pandemic, rising 19 percent to 1.43 million in 2021 from 1.21 million in 2020 due to mobility requirements.

Production had to keep up, surging 32 percent to 867,453 units last year from 655,440 units in 2020.
