Aboitiz Power Corp. expects to achieve growth from its
pipeline of renewable energy (RE) projects scheduled for the near term.
Juan Alejandro Aboitiz, Aboitiz Power chief financial officer, said the power projects set to operate starting next year include the 159 megawatts (MW) Laoag solar plant in Pangasinan and the 24 MW Magat battery energy storage in Isabela.
“We are on track to deliver our growth aspirations, and obviously if there are opportunities to build more RE — such as wind for example. That’s something that we’re always looking to do,” said Aboitiz in a televised interview yesterday.
The company said it is approaching its RE transition strategy “in a very balanced way” to “ensure there is sufficient baseload capacity.”
Aboitiz said the company is eyeing liquified natural gas as a transition fuel and is looking at the feasibility of adopting nuclear technologies as part of the solution to achieve decarbonization goals.
