Globe blocks 484M scam and spam messages

Globe Telecom Inc. has blocked more than 484 million scam and spam messages and shut down 5,707 domains tied to child exploitation and other harmful content in the first half of 2025.

Globe Telecom said its StopSpam portal has become a vital tool for customers. It processed 87,624 SIM reports, resulting in the deactivation of 9,961 SIMs on Globe’s network and the blacklisting of 77,065 SIMs from other networks in the first half of 2025, the company said in a statement on Thursday, August 7.

“People just want to feel safe when they go online,” Anton Bonifacio, Globe’s chief information security officer, said in the company statement.

“Our job is to make sure they can. We don’t wait for problems to escalate. We intercept threats early, work with global partners, and build smarter defenses into every part of our network,” he added.

The company said its filtering system blocked 248,552 URLs containing child sexual abuse and exploitation materials, with 8,385 URLs containing non-photographic images (NPIs) such as drawings, paintings, CGI and illustrations.

Globe said these efforts supported the enforcement of the Anti-Child Pornography Act (RA 9775), in coordination with local authorities and international watchdogs like the Internet Watch Foundation and the Canadian Centre for Child Protection.

These also continued Globe’s aggressive efforts in 2024, when it blocked over 414,544 malicious URLs across its network, the telco firm said.

The company added that it took down 2,785 illegal gambling sites during the same period, targeting platforms that put people at risk of financial fraud.
