THE Civil Aviation Authority announced on Monday that four Philippine-based airlines canceled several domestic and regional flights as super typhoon “Nando” battered Northern and Central Luzon.
At least 25 flights were canceled, affecting at least 3,000 passengers, according to the CAAP Operations Center Division, citing reports from Cebu Pacific, Philippine Airlines, CebuGO, and AirSWIFT, a subsidiary of Cebu Pacific based in El Nido, Palawan.
Of the canceled flights, 22 were domestic and three were international flights. One flight was diverted.
Budget carrier Cebu Pacific recorded the highest number of affected passengers at 1,529 from nine canceled flights. Its subsidiary CebGo accounted for 115 affected passengers from two cancellations and one diverted flight.
Flag carrier Philippine Airlines reported 1,217 affected passengers from 12 canceled flights, including routes between Manila and Laoag, Clark and Basco, Manila and Basco, Manila and Cauayan, and Manila and Tuguegarao.
Cebu Pacific’s nine canceled flights covered domestic routes between Manila and Cauayan, Tuguegarao, and Laoag, as well as international flights between Manila and Kaohsiung and Manila and Taipei.
CebGo cancelled two flights, specifically the Manila–Busuanga and Busuanga–Manila routes.
Meanwhile, AirSWIFT canceled two flights on September 21, affecting the El Nido–Busuanga route.
“Nando” intensified into a super typhoon on Sunday, Sept. 21, according to the weather bureau. It was expected to exit the Philippines on Sept. 23.
