THE Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) has reaffirmed its commitment to generate 8 million digital jobs by 2028 through the deployment of advanced technologies to expand connectivity in remote and underserved areas.
The DICT will lead this month’s celebration of National ICT (NICT) Month, renewing the pledge in line with the program’s “No Filipino will be left offline, behind, or disconnected. Digital Bayanihan” theme.
“This year’s theme reflects our strong commitment to President (Ferdinand) Marcos (Jr.’s) vision of inclusive digital transformation,” DICT Secretary Henry Aguda said in a statement to the press over the weekend.
As part of the NICT month celebration, DICT is set to conduct a series of events in the country, initially in Batanes this week, where the department will reaffirm its commitment to generate 8 million digital jobs by 2028, anchoring the future of the nation on inclusive, tech-driven employment.
From there, the celebration will move to the southernmost province of Tawi-Tawi on June 10 to 11, where the DICT, together with partners from the telecommunications industry, will commit to expand reliable connectivity nationwide through the deployment of advanced technologies such as satellite broadband and community Wi-Fi.
On June 17 to 18, the spotlight turns to Dumaguete City, where the department will highlight its initiatives to strengthen and digitize micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), underscoring ICT’s role in promoting grassroots innovation and inclusive economic growth.
On June 30, the celebration will culminate in Valenzuela City with the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the DICT and the city government of Valenzuela for the development of a premier ICT Hub — a landmark collaboration between the DICT and local government.
Envisioned as a key component of the “Silicon Valenzuela” vision, the facility will house green data centers, business incubation hubs, co-working spaces, digital retail areas, and government services designed to create jobs, foster innovation, and uplift the quality of life for Valenzuelanos and residents of nearby localities.
