The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP), together with the Borongan City government, yesterday inaugurated the new departure terminal building of Borongan City Airport.
The new departure terminal building is one of the maintenance and development projects undertaken by the city government for the Borongan airport that has been officially turned over to CAAP.
Capt. Manuel Antonio Tamayo, CAAP director general, expressed optimism on collaborative efforts by the national and local governments in the development of aviation infrastructure towards a shared vision for economic growth and national development.
The community airport, which serves the general area of Borongan and other municipalities in Eastern Samar, began its commercial operations last December 2022.
According to Ruperto Ambil III, Borongan City Airport flight operations chairman, the airport had a total passenger movement of 4,022 passengers and 86 flights from December 2022 to May 2023.
The new departure terminal building intends to provide a more comfortable and efficient travel experience for the increasing number of passengers in the Borongan Airport.
