200MW capacity possible

The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) is processing applications of at least 22 energy projects with a total capacity of 199.45 megawatts (MW) that can possibly provide supply during the summer months.

“Power demand has been increasing and is expected to increase more in the summer months. Right now, we are processing 22 applications of generation companies that will provide additional capacities. We expect that we will have enough power supply to cover the increasing demand during the summer months and until the national elections,” said Agnes Devanadera, ERC’s chairperson, in a statement.

ERC noted that majority of the capacity being applied for are from battery storage technology equivalent to 100 MW. Among the facilities are Universal Power Solutions’ 20 MW Malita battery energy storage system (BESS) and another 20 MW Toledo BESS as well as Giga Ace 4’s 60 MW Alaminos BESS.

Biomass projects followed for a total of 72.7 MW with projects including Victorias Milling Co.’s 40 MW co-generation plant; CleanGreen Energy Corp.’s 12 MW Orani power plant; Isabela La Suerte Rice Mill Corp.’s 5.05 MW biomass thermal facility; Surallah Power Generation’s 6.15 MW biomass power plant; and Biotech Farms Inc.’s 3.9 MW and 5.6 MW co-generation power plants.

Sixteen megawatts of diesel-powered plants are being applied for by Misamis Oriental II Rural Electric Cooperative including the 2 MW Balingasag modular; 4 MW Gingoog modular; 4 MW Agay Ayan modular; 2 MW Manticao; 2 MW Talakag; and the 2 MW Canituan.

Applications for solar power plants reached 6.9 MW, the biggest of which is the 4.37 MW Bataan Solar Energy Inc. followed by the 977 kilowatts (kW) from PI Energy Inc.

The rest are rooftop solar projects: EDC Siklab Power Corp. including the 547 kW Gaisano Ormoc; 547 kW Gaisano Sogod; and the 448 kW Gaisano Sorsogon.
