The stock market snapped its two-day winning streak as it declined 0.53 percent on Monday.
The peso was down.
The Philippine stock exchange index shed 34.14 points closing at 6,403.24.
The broader all shares shrunk 10.67 points or 0.31 percent.
“Philippine shares took a breather after successive sessions of trading in the green last week, with a shortened trading week ahead for Wall Street,” said Luis Limlingan, managing director at Regina Capital and Development Corp.
Property and holding firms were in red, as they declined 2.14 percent and 0.89 percent, respectively.
Meanwhile, the industrial sector posted the biggest gain for the day with 0.62 percent.
Total value turnover was at P6.24 billion.
Decliners beat advancers, 97 to 87, while 40 stocks were unchanged.
The peso ended 57.36 to the dollar, slightly weaker from 57.26 last Friday.
The currency opened at 57.2, its low, and hit a high of 57.37. Trading volume amounted to $527.82 billion.
