Maynilad fasttracks upgrade of La Mesa treatment plants

West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services Inc. has deployed over 400 workers at the La Mesa Treatment Plants (LMTP) 1 and 2 in Quezon City to fasttrack completion of the facilities’ P7.9-billion upgrade with the easing of quarantine restrictions.

“Completion of this project is essential to ensuring water service reliability for our customers, given the challenges posed by increasingly variable raw water quality from Angat Dam,” Randolph Estrellado, Maynilad’s chief operating officer, said in a statement.

The water concessionaire said the upgrade will increase the facilities’ capacity to treat higher raw water turbidity, retrofitting of structures for improved earthquake resiliency and automating processes.

The LMTP 1 and 2 will produce 2,400 million liters of water per day and serve around 90 percent of Maynilad’s 9.7 million customers.

The company also assured the upgrade which started in 2017 will not cause water service interruption.

Maynilad has also resumed construction of its P1-billion sewage treatment plant (STP) in Muntinlupa City.

The Cupang Water Reclamation Facility, is part of the company’s long-term plan to expand sewerage coverage in its concession area and to help reduce pollution loading in the Manila Bay.

Once completed by yearend, it can serve around 281,000 residents in the city.
