Hypergrowth seen for digital startups

Go global in minutes.

That’s the advice of Digbijoy Shukla, business development lead for Startup Business Development in Asean of Amazon Web Services or AWS.

“Go global to support hypergrowth startups as they expand,” he said in a press briefing.

“For a startup that’s not yet profitable, every dollar counts,” he cautioned, pointing to successful startups that streamlined operations and spending by using AWS.

Ventaja, a Philippine technology solutions provider that offers remittance payments services and online shopping to Filipinos working in Asia and the Middle East, said running on services such as AWS’, boosted remittance payments twice compared to its traditional data center environment. Doing so lowered its operational costs by 60 percent.

QuadX, the innovation arm of parent company LBC Express, a leading provider of shipping and logistics services in the Philippines said it is using AWS Lambda with Amazon API Gateway and Amazon SNS to run serverless architecture and automate testing of smaller pieces of microservices.

By adopting serverless technology on AWS, QuadX has enabled teams to build more robust, complex systems faster, and it has reduced monthly infrastructure spending from $8,000 to $600.

“AWS helps startups succeed by optimizing cloud costs,” Shukla said, pointing to the three biggest budget items for a startup — people, cloud software and marketing.

“Every startup needs to manage their capital to succeed,” he added.
