Govt team to study transport group demand for fare hike — Palace

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the economic team of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. will look into proposed fare hikes from different transportation groups to ease the impact of high fuel prices on public utility vehicle drivers and operators, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said on Thursday.

“The president’s directive is for this to undergo study because many will be affected by it. It is not just the DOTr that will decide, but the entire economic team, so that we could know if our people could also afford the increased fares,” Castro said.

She assured the public there would be consultations with different stakeholders and public hearings to find a balance among the concerns of all affected parties.

On August 11, the Pasang Masda, the Alliance of Transport Operators and Drivers Association of the Philippines (ALTODAP), and the Alliance of Concerned Transport Organizations (ACTO), filed a petition for a P1 fare increase.

Land Transportation and Franchising Regulatory Board (LTFRB) chairman Teofilo Guadiz III said they will review the petitions and ensure that any fare adjustment, if approved, would be fair, reasonable and based on solid justification.
