The Department of Transportation (DOTr) yesterday inaugurated the newly upgraded world-class integrated passenger terminal building (PTB) of the Port of Batangas in Batangas City.
DOTr Secretary Arthur Tugade, together with Jay Daniel Santiago, Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) general manager, led the inauguration of the completed PTB of the Port of Batangas of listed trade enabler Asian Terminals Inc. (ATI).
In a virtual live event, Tugade acknowledged ATI for its initiative to fully fund the upgrade of the port terminal which will give more convenience to sea travelers.
“The upgraded port is now capable of delivering a more efficient, seamless, safer, and convenient maritime travel to our locals and visitors. These developments are also seen to further provide livelihood to Batangueños as more job opportunities will be opened and expected to usher economic and tourism growth in Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas and Quezon),” the DOTr said.
The upgraded integrated PTB sits on a 15,000-square meter land. The completed phases 1 and 2A of the facility can accommodate up to 4,000 passengers at any given time.
Once construction of Phase 2B is completed, the port’s capacity is expected to further increase to 2,000 passengers, making Batangas Port the biggest terminal port in the country with a capacity of 6,000 passengers at any given time.
To offer an even more comfortable and convenient maritime travel for its passengers, the integrated PTB is equipped with fully air-conditioned lounges and person with disability-friendly facilities, the DOTr said.
The new passenger terminal features modern amenities, complete with food and commercial kiosks, including the electronic ticketing system of PPA, for the convenient and comfortable travel experience of nearly 4,000 passengers at any one time.
ATI has upgraded the Batangas Port’s terminal and berthing facilities in support of the government’s Build, Build, Build flagship program and in line with its investment commitment with the PPA.
