2 expressways prioritized

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is pushing for the implementation of two major unsolicited proposal projects of San Miguel Corp. (SMC) and Metro Pacific Tollways Corp. this year.

SMC’s P24-billion Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway (TPLEX) and MPTC’s P25- billion Cavite Tagaytay Batangas expressway (Cavitex) are expected to secure National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) board approval this year.

Based on the DPWH project status report, the agency will submit to NEDA the responses and additional supporting documents provided by the two companies in compliance with NEDA comments dated Jan. 19, 2021.

Once the projects secure NEDA board approval, the DPWH will commence the 60-day Swiss challenge proceedings which will allow other companies to submit proposals that will challenge the original proponent; however, the original proponent has the right to match the offer.

DPWH awarded the original proponent status on the two expressway projects in 2018.
TPLEX extension is a 59.4- kilometer four- lane toll road project that facilitate connectivity to Central Luzon and Metro Manila while

CTBEX aims to reduce travel time of motorists going to Tagaytay and Nasugbu from Manila and vice versa.
